foliage pictureVermont's Foliage Season is renowned for its beauty. Historically, the height of Foliage Season occurs in the Montgomery-Jay Peak area between the middle of September (in the higher elevations of the mountains) through the first week in October.

In the far reaches of the Northeast Kingdom, from Norton to Averill to Island Pond, for instance, the peak time is between the second week of August and the first week of September. The Champlain valley, to our west, and areas south of us come to full color between the first week of October and the middle of October. So, no matter when you visit between the middle of August and the middle of October, there are sure to be fabulous color displays to brighten your visit.

Of course, there are always events of some kind going on during Foliage Season. Montgomery offers a Fall Festival during the first two weekends of October. Jay Peak Resort hosts a huge Craft Festival, usually on Columbus Day weekend. Several other communities in the Northeast Kingdom, Franklin County and the Islands hold Octoberfests, Auto Shows, Craft Festivals, Arts Weekends, Apple Festivals, and more, throughout the season.

Foliage Season. The beauty and awe of the world taking a deep breath before settling down for a long winter's nap. A time to reflect on the wonders of nature and enjoy a production far greater than any Broadway show or Hollywood extravaganza. The entire region becomes a theme park, and the theme is "Breathtaking Beauty".
